Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to Priory School

Priory School is a fantastic place to work and learn. We are a thriving, vibrant and energetic community demonstrating a common purpose – to ensure the very best for each and every one of our students. We are a school with a distinct ethos that recognises every student has their own individual strengths, gifts and talents; our aim is to ensure that these are all developed to their full potential. We look for excellence in all aspects of learning.  I hope you find our website informative and gain a real insight into the amazing experiences and successes of our students.

2016 and 2018 saw the school achieve the best GCSE results in its long and illustrious service to the community.

  • English and maths progress was above national average.
  • The progress of academically more able students was above national average
  • The progress of students on Pupil Premium was above national average

I believe Priory School is a truly excellent school; it is a place where staff are committed and proud to work, a place which Governors and parents, carers and guardians are proud to support and a school to which students are proud to belong.

We lead and innovate to make learning challenging and distinctive. The relationships between teachers, students, parents and guardians are fundamental to the success of the school. Working together we ensure that students enjoy their time at Priory, make progress above the national average and leave us as responsible, well-qualified, mature young people; ready to make a valued contribution to society. Providing top quality teaching and learning, in order that all students can improve their academic and personal outcomes and achieve their full potential,   remains at the heart of all that we do. This in turn is supported by fantastic extra-curricular opportunities at the school. In 2018 we:

  • Offered over 100 trips and visits
  • Ran our second expedition, this time to Norway
  • Ran Duke of Edinburgh Award and had over 120 students complete the Bronze award and over 50 begin the silver.
  • Offer a myriad of lunchtime and after school clubs, now totalling over 75.
  • Offered sailing to very new year seven student

As a consequence our students are energised, happy and developing quickly as independent, aspirational learners who themselves want to make a difference.

We are committed to enabling all our young people to develop into happy, tolerant and confident adults; treating others like they would wish to be treated themselves. Our school community is friendly, but disciplined with our students understanding the value of hard work as the backbone of achieving success whilst embracing all that is best in respect of the new technologies.

This is a successful school where we aspire for everyone to improve on their personal best with a relentless pursuit of excellence. We never rest on our laurels, but look for new opportunities so that we continue to inspire confident and independent learners who are equipped for, and will thrive in, a changing world.

I trust that during your visit to our website you find much to illustrate the depth of opportunity that exists at this Priory. If you are a prospective parent, we would like to invite you to visit our school to form your own judgement. Please contact us at priory@priorysouthsea.org and  will be happy to arrange this for you.

Thank you for your interest in our school.
