Thank you to everyone who supported Blue Day this year, not only the Priory community, but also local schools Wimborne, Milton Park, and Cottage Grove, along with Pompey in the Community and Portsmouth FC. With your help and support we have collectively donated over £5000 to the Tom Prince Osteosarcoma Research Fund. We have one more fundraising event to go in July so the total for this year will be announced after that.
We know that many people were sad to read that 2018 was going to be the last Blue Day and we are so happy that the Portsmouth community got behind it again this year. Earlier this year, at the request of the Prince family, Priory agreed to take over organisation of the event moving forward. This year has been a huge success and the Portsmouth community has again proven proud and keen to show their support for this wonderful family and the legacy they have created.
Funding will now support the Tom Prince Osteosarcoma Research Project, which was set up following the £1Million donation made by the Prince family last year to University College London. This project is vital in enabling “comprehensive, large-scale genomic study of Osteosarcoma across the UK” resulting in doctors being able to develop more personalized treatments for patients with osteosarcoma, who are overwhelmingly more likely to be teenagers or young adults.
As Tom’s former school we are honored to keep this important fundraising going. The Blue Day event has always been well received and is an event that our city has proudly supported for the past 12 years.
We know that many local schools, businesses, clubs, and groups have been involved in the past, and it would be lovely to have your support again this year and moving forwards.
